Depression sucks.
The specific manifestations of depression are unique to each person and in some ways are all the same. Lack of energy. Apathy. Self critical thoughts. Thoughts that are critical of others. Descriptions like “a dense fog,” “haziness,” or “a dark cloud” only hint at the complex reality that is living with depression. Ron Weasley describes his experience with dementors--”It was weird. I felt as if I would never be happy again.” Does this resonate for you?
Here’s how I can help:
I feel like it is important and relevant that I talk about my stance on medications.
If taking medication is something you want to explore, I 100% support that. I am happy to provide referrals to compassionate medication providers that I have an established relationship with so you never feel overwhelmed or bullied into taking something you don’t want in your body. I also provide appropriate education about medications to my clients so you can be an informed consumer about what chemicals you are putting into your body. I collaborate with my client’s medication providers regularly so that you are getting the best possible care. If you do decide to start taking medication, you don’t have to stay on them forever. You, your medication provider, and I can all work together to create a plan for what makes the most sense for you. If you decide you don’t want to take medications, that is totally fine too. I believe in a client’s right to self determination. What that means is you have the right to decide what is best for you. Period. We can explore other ways to manage mood by creating healthy routines and support systems in your life.
